In the early '90s we acquired the property. The land had been abandoned for over forty years, due to the exodus that followed the Second World War. After the war the Italian people went through a period of economic depression, which forced many farmers to move to the cities, with the hope of finding work in the factories. Over time the fields that were left behind developed varied vegetation that flourished freely, unchecked by human intervention. While restoring our fields back to their original condition, we took special care not to alter the harmony that had been created over time, by avoiding drastic changes to the environment. We were captivated by the untainted beauty of the land, and by the unique sensation of being in a timeless dimension, far from the hustle and bustle of the world. We were moved to name the farm after the surrounding mountains, "Alpe della Luna". It carries a poetic ring in Italian which may be lost in translation: "The Mountains of the Moon". The oldest section of the house dates back to the late sixteen hundreds. It was built in stone and wood. While renovating, we took particular care to use traditional and eco-friendly materials.
